Q. Will I be asleep when experiencing Hypnotherapy?

You will be aware of everything that is happening and being said the whole time, however you may be so deeply relaxed that you may find yourself drifting into different levels of awareness. Remember, your subconscious mind is active throughout and it is this that your therapist is working with.

Q. Will I give away any secrets whilst I am hypnotised?

No, you won't say or do anything at all that you don't want to. If you were given suggestions that you didn't morally agree with you would come out of hypnosis.

Q. How do I know I will wake up from hypnosis?

No-one has ever remained in hypnosis indefinitely. Even if something were to happen to the hypnotherapist halfway through the session, you would still 'come out' of the trance state once rapport had been broken.

Q. Are there any side effects from Hypnotherapy?

The only side effects are the beneficial ones of feeling more relaxed afterwards and feeling more positive about whatever it was you sought hypnotherapy for. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state.

Q. What is Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a state of altered awareness during which our subconscious mind is more open and receptive to suggestions that are given. We drift in and out of different levels of awareness many times a day, absorbing information on a subliminal level as well as consciously. Your hypnotherapist will work with your imagination to help you to achieve your goals.

Q. How does it feel to be hypnotised?

Everyone is different. Some people say that their body feels comfortably heavy, others say they feel as though they're floating away. Most people will agree that it's a lovely feeling because they are more relaxed that they have ever been before.

Q. Can I be hypnotised against my will?

No, anyone can resist and it won't work. Hypnosis is co-operation and consent between two people - your therapist will show you the way and you can choose if you want to go there or not.

Q. I went to a Hypnotherapist once before and it didn't work. Does this mean I'm not able to be hypnotised?

The most common reason for failure to induce trance is lack of rapport. To overcome this problem, contact different therapists and choose one that you instinctively trust.

Q. How many sessions will I need?

Its hard to say. Some people only need one session, but others need several to get to the root of the problem.  A good therapist will aim to help you with your problem in as few sessions as possible. Discuss this with your therapist.

Q. How do I find a good Therapist?

Recommendation or word of mouth is always a good way.  Also, it is highly recommended that you choose a therapist who is qualified, insured, and who belongs to a professional body, such as the General Hypnotherapy Register.

Q. What is EFT Therapy - Acupoint Tapping?

Plainly speaking , EFT or Emotional Freedom Therapy is a psychological version of acupuncture with one major difference, no needles are used, you simply tap the acupressure points with your fingers.

Q. Why is Acupoint Tapping combined with Hypnotherapy?

Different therapies have their own strengths, but it is a decison for you to make with your therapist as to which therapy would be most effective for you.  Integratative therapy approaches combine therapies to meet your needs. With EFT you are fully awake during the whole session.  An integrated Hypnotherapy session combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acupoint Tapping.

Q. How does EFT work?

Meridian Therapies have been developed from advances in Energy Psychology and Acupuncture, aiming to balance meridian energy chanels.  EFT works by balancing energy disruptions in your body and releasing the negative emotions.  This is a natural approach based on acupuncture, without needles.

Q. How is EFT done?

Hypnotherapy aims to assist in making positive changes.  When combining with EFT/Acupoint Tapping, you willI focus on your problem.  You will be guided through the process as you repeat some phrases while you gently tapp your fingers on certain acupressure points.

Q. Do you have to believe in EFT in order for it to work?

No. EFT works whether you believe in it or not.  It does not work as a placebo affect.  Even if you are a hardened skeptic EFT can work for you.

Q. Are there any negative side effects, or does it hurt?

EFT has no known side affects and it is totally pain free.

Q. When I tried EFT it did not work.

Then you applied EFT incorrectly. Just tapping on the various tapping points will do nothing for you. EFT is also based on psychology. To make the EFT work for you then you have to understand the psychology of EFT. You also have to know how to work out the root causes of the problem.  It is strongly recommended that you seek help from a professional.
