Traumatic life experience or critical incident
A traumatic experience may be unexpected, generating accute stress responses. PTSD can occur after military combat, serious road accidents/incidents, violent personal assaults, such as sexual assault, mugging or robbery.
PTSD may also occur in any other situation where a person feels extreem fear, horror or helplessness.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychological and physical condition caused by very frightening and distressing events. The NHS National Health Service, recommends EMDR and CBT for the treatment of PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Treatment Plan
The therapy approach used, will depend on the needs of individual client's. Treatment for PTSD usually begins with a detailed evaluation and assessment.
Research has shown that EMDR has been effective when working with trauma and stress responses. The EMDR approach is integrated into other psychotherapies when appropriate, for example CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
